Sediment Workshop May 2023

CHASM has partnered with BLUE Marine Foundation to deliver a workshop examining marine sediment influencing Selsey and the rest of the Sussex Coast. The workshop took place on 18 May 2023 and was funded by the Rewilding Network. The Sussex Sediment Monitoring and Adaptive Response Workshop brought together the key stakeholders involved in monitoring and regulating sediment inputs to Sussex coastal waters, together with local fishermen and sea users who have observed the changes and impacts of sediment on local habitats and fisheries.

The focus of the workshop was to identify the steps that can be taken to help address potential negative impacts of sediment in Sussex. This included identifying which of 50 pre-defined CHASM work packages and tasks have the most support from workshop attendees, and to draw out any potential options for funding/collaboration

The ultimate purpose of the Workshop will be to develop a framework to target monitoring, future research and adaptive coastal management actions on priority areas to optimize the conditions for natural kelp recovery and healthy habitats to support inshore shellfish populations.
