Meet the RSPB at Pagham
The RSPB will be hosting two ‘Meet the RSPB’ days at Pagham Harbour in early May, giving local people a chance to drop in and share any thoughts or ask any questions, and in general just allow them to get to know you a bit better, and you to know them! The first will be on 5 May on the Pagham side of the Harbour (location to be confirmed); the second will be on 11 May at the Visitor Centre. Exact times will be confirmed shortly. While this is hopefully a nice opportunity for people, the important thing is that the door is always open if you have any issues or concerns.

Earth Hour 2012
What will you be doing when the lights switch off? World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour is well-known for its huge landmark switch offs – this year the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and Old Trafford Stadium are just a few of the big names taking part again. But what it’s really about is people coming together to celebrate and show we care about our brilliant planet.
There’s loads happening across the country, from candlelit dinner parties and torchlit treasure hunts to environmental workshops and acoustic gigs – there’s even an Earth Hour wedding! But don’t worry if you haven’t got plans because there’s still time to get involved.
Check out the WWF Earth Hour website for more ideas about how to get involved.

Chichester Harbour Nature Notes
Each month Ed Rowsell, the Conservation Officer at Chichester Harbour Conservancy, talks about the latest nature news in and around Chichester Harbour. During July you might see more fox and badger cubs as they become more self sufficient during the summer months. On the other hand it is a quiet time for birds because few migrants pass through, while others have finished breeding and are not as obvious as they were a few weeks ago. You can also read about the abundance of insects and plants that you can see around the harbour.
Take a look at the Chichester Harbour Conservancy website to read more about Ed’s Nature Notes throughout the year.
December Nature Notes
The mild spell experienced in November is now giving way to colder weather. This is good for birders as there will potentially be more bird movements from Scandinavia and the Baltic.
One of the Manhood Peninsula’s most important species, the water vole, is not so evident now, however frogs and toads are still out and about, as are Red Admiral butterflies.

November Nature Notes
The autumn colour in Chichester Harbour is now at its best. The leaves on many trees are turning bright yellow, orange and red, a spectacular demonstration of autumn’s palette. Many young Brent geese are here along with other winter visitors, and if you look carefully you might even see a few butterflies.

October Nature Notes
A roundup of what you can expect to see in and around the natural environment of Chichester Harbour is produced every month by Ed Rowsell, the Conservation Officer at Chichester Harbour Conservancy.
This month Nature Notes talks about the arrival of the first Brent Geese, sees how mammals prepare for cold weather, and conjours up the amazing variety of rich autumn colours on trees and bushes. For more information either see the Conservancy‘s website or view Ed’s October Nature Notes below:
