Following the passage of the Marine and Coastal Access Act,\u00a0ten Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities (IFCAs) are being established\u00a0round\u00a0the English coast, one of which will\u00a0include\u00a0Sussex.<\/p>\n

Members are now being recruited to join these committees. The IFCAs will replace the existing Sea Fisheries Committees from April 2011.<\/p>\n

The intention is to\u00a0promote a healthy marine environment.\u00a0Sustainable fisheries will be encouraged\u00a0to remain viable\u00a0by\u00a0ensuring inshore fisheries resources are managed\u00a0out to six nautical miles.<\/p>\n

People from a wide range of interests with local knowledge\u00a0\u2013 including commercial fishing, sea angling, conservation, recreational and tourism, ports, marine research, marine heritage, and other industrial interests in the sea \u2013 are needed to join the IFCAs. Everyone who uses or impacts on the marine ecosystem will be given a say in how it\u2019s managed through the IFCAs.<\/p>\n

Members will need to give up one day per month and be able to give objective and honest advice to benefit the region.
