The Natural England publication - the Natural England National Character Area Profile: 126 South Coast Plain (NE525) \u2013\u00a0 <\/strong>was published 24 February 2014.<\/p>\n

This excellent piece of work highlights the importance of the Manhood Peninsula as a \u2018Distinct Area\u2019 in the South Coast NCA \u2013 as \u2018one of the last, and largest, relatively undeveloped stretches of coastline between Newhaven and Southampton.\u2019 It notes that \u2018tranquillity is a scarce but greatly prized resource within this heavily urbanized NCA.\u2019<\/p>\n

Natural England\u2019s Statements of Environmental Opportunity in this area include \u2018improving access to the coast for walking, cycling and disabled people and encouraging reduced car use.\u2019 (SEO 1) and \u2018encouraging a strategic approach to the planning of land use (in) the Manhood Peninsula\u2019 ensuring that \u2018the tranquil character is retained.\u2019 (SEO2).<\/p>\n

It is good to see the environmental assets we have on the peninsula being recognised and\u00a0reinforced.\u00a0The Manhood Peninsula Partnership hopes to\u00a0build on the work by enhancing the environment of the entire\u00a0peninsula and\u00a0create links for people and wildlife\u00a0between the important EU designated and compensatory sites of\u00a0 Chichester, Medmerry and Pagham Harbours - strengthening the value of each individual area.<\/p>\n
